EIGHT TEAMS UNBEATEN AFTER TWO ROUNDS AT INTERCOLLEGIATE TEAM CHAMPIONSHIPS

LINCOLN, Neb. - After two opening rounds of match play Thursday night, four men's teams and four women's teams remained undefeated in the double-elimination bracket at the 2012 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships.

In the men's division, Wichita State, Robert Morris-Illinois, Webber International and Lindenwood made it through their opening matches at Sun Valley Lanes unscathed. For the women, Webber International, McKendree, Lindenwood and Midland stayed unbeaten.

A total of 32 teams began the quest for collegiate national titles Thursday, and four men's teams and four women's teams exited the event after the opening day.

The remaining teams will compete Friday until there are two men's and two women's teams left for the nationally televised finals. The championship match for the men and women will be taped Saturday and will air on CBS Sports Network in May.

All 32 teams took part in 24 games of Baker qualifying Thursday morning to determine seeding for the best-of-seven bracket play. The Wichita State men earned the top seed and were put to the test in both of their victories. The Shockers went the distance with both No. 16 Vincennes and No. 9 St. Ambrose but won both matches, 4-3.

The opening round in the women's competition was full of upsets as four double-digit seeds won their first match, including No. 16 West Texas A&M, which upset top seed Wichita State, 4-2. West Texas A&M then went on to lose to Lindenwood in the second round, 4-0.

The Webber International women, seeded second, are the top-ranked team left among the undefeated teams as they took down No. 15 Stephen F. Austin, 4-2, before knocking off No. 10 Florida State, 4-2.

Competition resumes at 8 a.m. Central on Friday with live coverage on BOWL.com's BowlTV. For more information on the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, visit BOWL.com/ITC.
