As TJ mentioned, this is a public forum to discuss opinions on college bowling. There have been several different threads on this forum that have discussed formats for tournaments. No one is "whining," they are simply stating their opinion to open up discussion. I don't think anyone posts on here with the intent to make something change instantly (especially something so set in stone as the ITC.)
With that being said, I have to agree with Tyler here. Our team is also in the same situation as RIT, having to fund raise like crazy to get out there. We are not funded by our university, so nearly everything comes out of our own pockets. On top of that, there is a 12-13 hour car ride ahead of us. I don't think we are the only 2 schools in this situation either. It is unfortunate that teams will be traveling from all over the country and spending all this money, all so that 8 teams will be done after day 1. Of course, no one is going in with the expectation that they will be done after 1 day. Your lack of confidence argument does not apply here. Clearly the teams traveling to Lincoln have proven themselves to be the best of the best - there should be no lack in confidence from any one of these teams.
The "problem" is not lacking confidence, it's the fact that there are teams (and parents) that are going to be spending a lot of money and missing classes to come out here. I don't care if it's Wichita State or if it's Toledo getting knocked out in the first day - I still don't believe it's right. Yes, no matter what happens, I'm sure most of the teams will be planning on staying at least until Saturday to enjoy the competition and celebrate their achievements. The ITC is by far the most fun and exciting tournament of the season, and it is a great accomplishment in order to qualify for the event. It is unfortunate that not everyone will be able to experience more than 1 day on the lanes, but clearly the ITC schedule is set in stone and no one expects that a forum discussion one month before the event will change the outcome of things.
